Summary of Position
The Senior QA Engineer position supports our Authentication/Authorization/Billing/Subscriber services, which are critical, revenue driving services for our OTT platforms. The primary function of the QA Engineer is to successfully design and execute test plans to support the delivery of new features for our backend systems.
The selected candidate MUST have experience testing different backend systems/platforms, with the ability to define the associated testing requirements within our own team, support project documentation and making sure those work for the customer facing application development teams who will consume the services.
Successful applicants will be very familiar with websites, REST APIs, apps, and console platforms, third party billing integrations/platforms and OTT subscriber data sets.
This role must be on-site in Denver 4 days a week.
Responsibilities
- Designs test plans for complex backend projects and determines test strategy
- Responsible for executing test-cases for large and complex features across multiple systems by analyzing user stories, acceptance criteria
- Follows established team testing practices to ensure highest quality through clearly documented and repeatable processes
- Responsible for running and analyzing results of performance tests
- Effectively communicates status of the tasks, raises issues and blockers to management
- Identifies cross-functional dependencies and potential risks and quality issues
- Determines the scope of regression for a given feature
- Logs bugs in the defect tracking system and keeps the state of the ticket up to date; escalating where necessary to expedite resolution
- Works closely/collaborates with the services development team, other testers, client engineering and QA teams to troubleshoot issues in production and lower level environments
- Reviews test cases and assists more junior team members
- Uses various types of devices (mobile, Web, TV) for functional and regression testing
- Analyzes logs and metrics as a part of test process
- Works with AWS monitoring tools and databases
- Proactively suggests improvements for QA team process
- Knowledge base documentation
Education and Work Experience Requirements
- BS degree in computer science, software engineering or equivalent technical field
- 5+ years overall testing experience, preferably 3+ on a backend project
- Hands on experience with testing REST APIs using Postman, curl or custom tools
- Hands on experience with creating test plans for complex backend projects
Qualifications and Skills
- Experience gathering, refining, and validating business/technical requirements, interdependencies, cross-functional dependencies & risks/issues
- Understanding and knowledge of Software Engineering Concepts and Methodologies
- In depth understanding of application functions, bug fixing, and testing protocols
- Ability to create testing scenarios, write test cases and develop test plans
- Ability to perform exploratory testing for a complex backend project
- Commercial experience with Postman
- Experience with logging tools like Splunk
- Very good understanding of REST API
- SQL knowledge
- Experience with system/platform integrations and the ability to work cross-functionally
- Shows strong initiative and is motivated to learn; works independently
- Provides guidance to interns or less junior testers
- Strong communication skills (oral and written)

Nice to Haves
- Experience with mobile (iOS, Android), web, TV and console technologies (Xbox, PS4)
- OTT/Billing experience preferred, but not required
- Experience with non-relational databases (DynamoDB, MongoDB, Cassandra)
- Experience with AWS Lambdas and SQS or their Azure equivalent (functions and queues)

Compensation
$109,000 - $172,400
