Summary of Position

The Director of Network Operations is a highly experienced engineer with a mastery level understanding of network technologies/principals across all facets of enterprise networks.  This includes defining network strategy and creating advanced networking solutions to support business requirements.

 

This position requires an emphasis on long-term planning and development of the network environment, development of roadmaps, and strategy.  In addition to significant hands-on engineering and maintenance activities, the position also manages a small internal team and network consultants. 

Responsibilities

Network Architecture and Design

  • Define the network strategy and roadmap
  • Proficient in all major Cisco products, including LAN, WAN, and Security platforms
  • IP and VoIP network design and routing architectures
  • Identify and evaluate new systems, technologies and services and develop them to an operational capability
  • Creating technical diagrams, presentations, and other networking documentation
  • Experience troubleshooting complex network issues
  • Enable standards and policies to reduce repeated effort for deployment and operations
  • Monitor the development of new standards within the networking industry 
  • Work with the business to understand requirements and provide solutions that ensure success of business goals
  • Establish and maintain key relationships with business partners, other IT groups, and service providers
  • Operate as a lead architect within a team of technical leads
  • Continually assess the existing environment and identify opportunities for improving solutions and service
  • Manage lifecycle of circuit procurement and ensure diversity of designs where applicable to meet IT advertised SLA’s to the business

 

IT Operations and Security Support

  • Act as lead Act as the highest resource for problem determination and resolution and assist other engineers with the diagnosis of complex network issues
  • Proficient in IDS/IPS and bandwidth shaping solutions
  • Lead role in datacenter negotiations and operations
  • Monitoring, alerting and responding to complex and ever evolving network architecture issues
  • Participate in the development of operational procedures and policies
  • Participate in the change control, issue resolution, and event management processes
  • Develop the knowledge base and expertise of the IT organization
  • Creation of complex network diagrams to be provided to senior engineers
  • Creation of high-level diagrams/documentation for senior management
  • Reliable scoping of time, hardware, and cost for every project
  • Project management
  • Vendor management
  • Budget development and management
  • Define and report KPIs on network performance, usage, and reliability

 

Management

  • Manage a single telecom resource that covers CUCM and mobile devices.  
  • Develop a roadmap and business case for adding an additional network team member within the next 1-2 years
  • Mentoring team members

Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum 10 years’ employment in a Global Enterprise IT environment
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience with Cisco/Bluecoat/HP/Dell/EMC based network environments
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience with multi-tiered network infrastructure environment
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience with defining and realizing major technology initiatives
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience managing a team
  • Previous IT project management experience across multiple IT disciplines
  • Bachelor degree or equivalent experience
  • CCNP or higher Certification (depending on Experience level
